Statement Regarding STOP Underage Drinking Act Reintroduction
Statement Attributable to Jim O’Hara, Executive Director, Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth
Washington, DC - "Members of Congress today showed their leadership in protecting our children from the nation's number-one drug problem, underage drinking, by reintroducing the 'STOP Underage Drinking Act.' More than 7,000 young people under age 16 take up drinking for the first time every single day. Reducing this problem demands the kind of national attention and focused action shown in the common-sense proposals of this legislation.
"The members cosponsoring the 'STOP Underage Drinking Act' hail from both parties and both houses of Congress. Such broad and continued leadership on reducing underage drinking is essential if we are to safeguard our children, their health, and their futures."
